Biographical / Historical

George Drown was born at Orange, MA on November 3, 1899. He enlisted in the Navy in 1920 and served as an Aviation Machinist’s and Carpenter’s Mate. He received training at the Newport, RI Naval training Station and subsequently served at the Naval Hospital, San Diego, CA, NAS San Diego, NAS Coco Solo, CZ and NAS Ream Field. During his career he was assigned to Naval Torpedo Squadron Two (VT-2B), Patrol Squadron Seven (VP-7F), Composite Squadron Forty (VC-40), Carrier Service Unit Thirteen (CASU-13) and on the USS Saratoga (CV-3), USS Wright (AV-1), and USS Badoeng Strait (CVE 116). He retired from active duty on 15 August 1944 after twenty-four years of continuous service, and passed away on October 10, 1977.
