Carl Gwartney was born June 11, 1920 in Hooper, Colorado. He grew up in that rural state until hearing about the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Carl was 21, newly married, and still living in his hometown. He was a part owner of a light plane, had a pilot’s license and had amassed more than 300 flying hours. During the Second World War, he was a glider pilot in the 29th Troop Carrier Squadron

Colonel Hall was assigned to the 62 Squadron of the famous 5 FG at Boxted Air Base in England during WWII and was credited with the destruction of two enemy aircraft (Junkers Ju- 188 bombers). He flew 55 combat missions with a total of 310 combat hours in WWII and the Korean War.

This collection contains personal material relating to the career of Maj. George Hallett. Hallett was an engineer who worked with Glenn Curtis on early airplanes in San Diego. He was in the Army Air Service during World War I. After the war he worked in the General Motors Research Lab and later as a consultant for Consolidated Aircraft.
