Abstract

Photos in the collection show him in Guymas, Sonora, Mexico, in 1970, where the movie Catch 22 was being filmed. Mr. Daly was Ordnance Manager for Pilot/LCDR F. G. Tallman, the flying supervisor. This film was renowned for its role in saving the B-25 Mitchell aircraft from possible extinction.

Biographical / Historical

Philip A. "Pat" Daly, Jr. was born August 21, 1925. Records indicate that he served as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class in the U.S. Navy from about 1944 to 1946, and also flew as a private pilot from 1948 to 1954 in Hollywood, FL.

Mr. Daly married Dolores B. Baran on May 2, 1959, in Riverside, California. In 1960-61, the couple lived in Santa Barbara, California where he worked as a mechanic for the US. Forest Service. Later, in 1962, Mr. Daly served in the U.S. Army, Hq Company, 2d Battalion, 81st Armor, 1st Armored Division (Old Ironsides), Ft. Hood, TX. This division was reactivated under the ROAD (Reorganization Objective, Army Divisions) concept on February 3, 1962, as a direct outgrowth of the Communist-precipitated Berlin Crisis. Mr. Daly later was stationed with the U.S. Army Training Center, Infantry, Company A, 3d Battle Group, 1st Brigade, Ft. Ord, CA.
