Description: This is a two box collection, both with measurements 18 x 13 1⁄4 x 3 inches. There are over 150 different issues of “Southern Star.” Content notes: “Southern Star” is a newsletter that was typically published every two weeks. The issues in this collection range from March 1968 to January 1988. The size of the newsletters – which differ from 4, 6, 8, or more pages – varies every other week. The newsletters also tend to skip a week ahead of the two-week publishing trend, and occasionally are published early one week.

Biographical / Historical

History Lockheed Georgia company (GELAC), located in Marietta, Georgia, was one of five branches of Lockheed’s aeronautical systems group. While GELAC has had many important projects, they are primarily recognized for their critical work on the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. In September 1987, GELAC, Lockheed California (CALAC), and Lockheed Aircraft Service (LAS) were all integrated into Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Company.
